Local businesses are showing their support for local food by getting involved in the upcoming Southeast Harvest, Friday 7th to Sunday 9th November.

A number of Moruya restaurants and cafés are creating dishes and entire menus showcasing local food. Longtime supporter of local food, award-winning restaurant The River holds a regular local produce dinner on the first Friday of every month and are close to booked out for their dinner on Friday 7th. Call them on 4474 5505 to book.

“Animal welfare and supporting the local rural community are a high priority for us and we find our customers appreciate the concerns we have surrounding these issues,” said Megan from the Air Raid Tavern. “Buying local contributes to a sustainable economical and environmental future for our community and allows us to know exactly how our food is grown.” Call them on 4474 2074 to book.

The new management of The Bridge Bistro at The Waterfront Hotel are also enthusiastic supporters of local growers and regularly feature local ingredients on their menu. Call them on 4474 4399 for more information.

The Vulcan Street Café and the Moruya Health Café on Church Street are also planning dishes for their menus featuring local produce and are discovering how easy it can be for businesses to incorporate locally grown food into their kitchens.

Other retail businesses in Moruya are also getting into the local food theme by displaying a container vegetable garden outside their shopfront in the week leading up to the festival. These portable mini-wicking beds have been manufactured locally and donated to the festival by Joe Hooper, then planted out and tended by Moruya TAFE students.

These water efficient gardens are a great example of how easy it can be to grow your own food in a limited space. Keep an eye out for these innovative gardens displayed in front of Moruya Books, Rustic Pantry Wholefoods, Moruya Chiro and Wellness, Moruya Photographics and other shopfronts around town. They will be auctioned at the SAGE Riverfeast on Saturday 8th.

Joe will be at the Southeast Harvest displaying his range of wicking beds, or you can contact him on 0412 708 664.
